PDF  Pages (Portable Document Format)
on this Website

You will notice on the Contents page of this website, that in most cases, you will have the option to select either a pdf file or its HTML counterpart.

Some of the pdf files on this website are quite large, so you may not wish to print them, but instead save them on your computer as a file for convenient use when not connected to the web. The PDF format is a useful way to read them in the style of reading a book right on your computer screen. The larger files are fully bookmarked.  Click here for instructions on how to save PDF files to your computer and open them afterwards.

In other cases, however, the files are much smaller than their HTML counterparts. They have been converted into PDF format so as to optimize the total number of pages for printing (eg. 18 pages in HTML will now be 4 double-sided pages in PDF). This will save not only paper but ink. Both version 4.0 and 5.0 have been used on this website.

Also you will have the convenience of only printing the pages you wish to print. If  you are using Acrobat Reader 4.0 you will have the option of printing double sided pages.
